Unlike traditional fiberglass, polyesters, Jet Stream MAX insulation can conform to uneven surfaces — filling the smallest cracks and the low access areas traditional insulations usually miss. That tight fit will seal air leaks, keeping the cold out in the winter and the heat out in the summer. It also helps to seal out moisture, and that can eliminate health problems from mold and mildew in the years to come. The ability of blown-in insulation to flow into tight spots makes it the most energy efficient insulation, and it will also deaden sound between rooms – a real plus if you don’t like your kids’ music collection.
Jet Stream MAX is one of the best insulation products available allowing you to keep the outside temperature out and the inside temperature in! Jet Stream Max is a soft, granulated mineral wool used in attics, ceilings or roofs for thermal and acoustic insulation. It has all the advantages of traditional insulation materials without the inherent installation disadvantages, so achieves superior installed performance. Jet Stream MAX is a super high performance, unbonded, non-combustible glasswool designed with optimal thermal properties and excellent coverage and blowing characteristics. It can be installed in both new build and existing properties to provide thermal and acoustic performance. Jet Stream MAX completely fills gaps, voids and hard to reach areas around pipes, electrical wires and fixtures.
Traditional insulation like Pink Batts or Greenstuf for the roof or ceiling space is usually installed at the construction stage. However, for older homes we retrofit the insulation into the ceiling. Depending on what is in the ceiling we will ether roll a blanket out over the top of the existing insulation or if there is no insulation the best practice is to place a layer of insulation between the framing and then a second layer over the top at right angle to the first. The 'double layer' method of insulation is the best practice as it stops what is known as ‘thermal bridging’ where heat is lost around the sides of the insulation. According to BRANZ report SR211 (2009) Installed Performance of ceiling insulation a single layer of R3.2 installed will lose half its insulation value as it settles into place which is why two layers is required.
